Breast Augmentation also referred as “boob job” is a plastic surgery conducted to enhance the size and shape of a woman’s breasts.

It is conducted either by use of breast implants (silicone or saline) or fat transfer extracted from other body parts like stomach or hips.

Breast Fat Transfer is done through a process called liposuction where surgeons use fat cells from your other body parts and inject them into your breasts.

Most women go for breast Augmentation to restore breasts that have been affected due to mastectomy, pregnancy, weight loss, or aging.

Breast implants are used during breast Augmentation to reshape and increase the size of a woman’s breasts.

This may be for reconstruction purposes after a surgery to remove a breast due to cancer has been done or for cosmetic purposes.

There are two types of implants;

  1. By use of Silicon
  2. Use of Saline.

Which one then is the better between the two or how can you choose the right implant for you?

Breast Augmentation Techniques.

What concerns every patient who intends to go for a boob job is what happens to the scars after the surgery.

Here is where experience and competency of a cosmetic surgeon come in.

Experienced and qualified plastic surgeons know different surgical techniques to use to hide the scars.

Below are some of the techniques your plastic surgeon will use to place your breast implants.

  • Inframammary incision: This is a surgical technique through which a saline or silicone implant can be inserted below or above the breast muscle. Most women prefer the inframammary procedure as the scar is hidden by a bra or the breast itself.
  • Peri-areolar: This is another option available for Breast Augmentation. The good thing about this incision, the scars are almost invisible. Your cosmetic surgeon cuts along the areola, the scars usually disappear in the pigmented skin.
    Drawbacks: Women who chose Periareolar incision may lose their nipple sensitivity and have difficulty breastfeeding in the future, as the milk ducts can be affected by this type of incision.
  • Trans-axillary: Many people don’t like trans axillary incision method.A cosmetic surgeon access the breast through an infra-mammary approach or through the nipple to place the silicon. However, there have been raised concerns about silicon rupture which have been placed using this procedure. An experienced surgeon is required to conduct the process.
  • Transumbilical: This technique is the list preferred among the four options. An incision is done at the belly button where all the silicons are inserted through and brought to the breast. The great thing about this type of technique is the breast is not affected as the surgery is not conducted on the breast itself. Save
