Dr. Irene Boeddinghaus is an Oncologist in Vincent Pallotti Hospital and Netcare Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital, where she runs a Breast Clinic. She graduated from UCT (University of Cape Town) Medical School in 1994 and obtained her Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom (MRCP (UK)) in 1998. She then worked in several London oncology departments before joining the Royal Marsden Hospital\u2019s Department of Academic Biochemistry and the Institute of Cancer Research. Dr. Boeddinghaus obtained her Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in 2002. Her doctoral thesis investigated mechanisms of action and resistance to aromatase inhibitors. During this time she set up and ran the ground-breaking international neoadjuvant trial of the AI, Anastrozole versus Tamoxifen. Hormonal management of breast cancer is still an interest of hers, and so is translational research. She serves as Site Principal Investigator on several international trials and has published widely in her fields of expertise. Dr. Boeddinghaus has also presented at international congresses, winning a Young Investigator Award from The American Association of Cancer Research in 1999. She is a member of the South African Society of Medical Oncologists (SASMO), the South African Oncology Consortium (SAOC), and the Royal College of Physicians. Her two foremost passions are work and family.
