A slower aging rate is something many would like to have. Fortunately, we are born in an era where there are plenty of options to keep a youthful appearance as well as slowing down aging effects.

In the past few years, cosmetic anti-aging surgeries are gaining momentum among people, especially women.

With the emergence of less invasive cosmetic treatments, more and more people are turning to laser treatments, dermal fillers, and face-lift to improve appearance.

Sagging skin is a common problem, particularly in the jowl region, that women like to improve. Below we have explained some useful information about facelift and important facts you should know about facelift procedures.

What is Face-Lift?

Face lift also known as rhytidectomy is a cosmetic surgery performed to tighten sagging or droopy skin on your face and neck. In a facelift procedure, excess skin is removed to lift the skin on your face. This cosmetic procedure is usually performed within 15 to 30 minutes.

A patient can carry on with her normal routine after a few hours. Many patients are even able to get back to work after 1 or 2 weeks.

Below are the signs of aging addressed by Face-lift procedure :

  • Improves sagging skin.
  • Removes the fat fallen on the face
  • Cheeks and Jaw jowls ( jowl lift)
  • Droopy skin
  • Excess facial fat
  • Wrinkles
  • Double chin
  • Loose neck skin or excess fat on the neck.

But remember, a facelift is not a permanent solution, it usually lasts up to 10 years.

Now, let’s move towards the most important questions people have about facelift surgery.

Am I a good candidate for a facelift?

To qualify for facelift surgery, you should have a good facial skin elasticity, good general health, and a good bone structure.

Another thing that makes you an ideal candidate for a facelift is having loose skin, deep wrinkles and excess fat under the chin.

How will the recovery be like?

It takes about 10 days to get the recovery period started. After the facelift surgery, in the first few days, you need to remain calm and relaxed.

Be with someone who can help you give support and assurance in the initial few days. After the first week, you happen to have your stitches removed.

Most candidates can return to work after 1-2 weeks after the surgery. Many people can continue with daily life activities after a few hours of facelift surgery.

You need to eat healthy and nutritious food, take proper rest for a speedy recovery. Also, follow every instruction given by your cosmetic surgeon for the easier and quick recovery process.

When should I go for a facelift?

If your sagging skin or deep wrinkles is bothering you too much or lowering down your self-confidence, it is time to consider having a facelift or a Mini-facelift.

People may try facial exercises for tightening the skin. But if they fail to give any results, you should begin thinking over a cost-effective facelift procedure.

If you are someone between the age of 40-50 years, it can be the right time to go under facelift surgery.

Besides, patients older than this age group, have also had successful facelifts. The more excess or sagging skin you have, the more ideal candidate you become for a facelift.

Does a facelift change the way I look?

No, a facelift cannot change your basic appearance of the face. It will only improve your appearance to make it as youthful as possible.

Don’t expect any change in the structure of your face. It works towards the improvement of giving you younger-looking skin by removing excess fat, loose skin on your face.

Your face will start looking natural over time. The change is not that significant but people might notice that you had some new distinctive appearance.

What is post-surgery pain like?

You can expect to move around and get back to work-life after 7 to 14 days. However, in a few initial days of surgery, patients need to relax at least for a week and should avoid going outside.

Also, you may feel some discomfort after the surgery, but medications can help deal with it.

During Post-surgery, you may experience mild to moderate swelling around eyelids and other parts of the face. This swelling may take up to six weeks to go away completely. After two weeks, you will notice swelling getting reduced.

Well, some people prefer not to rush to work or get on with their normal daily activities in a few weeks after the surgery. They wait for 3-4 weeks.

What are the risks and complications that come with a face-lift?

No surgery can guarantee zero risks and complications. There are always a few risks associated.

Before you go for any surgical procedure, you should be well-aware of the benefits and risks involved with the procedure.

Risks and complications of a facelift include:

  • Bleeding: Smokers and people who are on anti-clotting medications are not suitable for the surgery. The surgery poses a risk of bleeding during the surgical procedure.
  • General anesthesia risks: Some people with diabetes and obesity are at an increased risk of general anesthesia.

Let’s wrap it up!

You live in the 21st century and at this age, turning back the clock to look young is achievable with cosmetic surgical treatments available today.

When it is about facelift surgery, you must select a skilled and board-certified cosmetic surgeon to get the desired results.

Cosmetic surgery is a complex process, and you can’t just go to any cosmetic surgeon. Do your research and homework before you choose a cosmetic surgeon for a facelift.
