About Us

The Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi, located on 3rd Parklands Avenue, Limuru Road, is a leading medical institution and teaching hospital in East Africa. 

The hospital first opened its doors as a community hospital on September 10, 1958. It officially came under the management of the Aga Khan University (AKU) on July 1, 2005, which was a significant step in its evolution as a teaching and tertiary referral hospital. Mr. Shawn Bolouki is the hospital’s current Chief Executive Officer. 

AKUH, N is the first hospital in Kenya to receive the coveted Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation. 

The hospital departments include Accident & Emergency, Family Medicine, Surgery, Radiology, Maternity and Women Services, Children’s Hospital, et cetera. It also runs various facilities, including: 

  • Heart and Cancer Centre which has five operating theatres, a cardio therapy intensive care unit, a coronary intensive care unit, a neonatal intensive care unit, and two radiation therapy units for cancer treatment.
  • Princess Zahr​​a Pavilion for five-star inpatient facilities with a homely feel
  • Patient Services Centres, such as General Medical Unit, Doctors Plaza, Eye Clinic, Dental Clinic, Critic Care, among many others
  • ​Radiology & Imaging Centres offers various diagnostic and treatment processes, such as Computed Tomography (CT), Ultrasound, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).

The Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi’s vision is “to be the premier, tertiary, teaching, and referral health care facility in sub-Saharan Africa.” And one of its missions is to provide “accessible, cost-effective, evidence-based, and efficient care that meets or exceeds the expectations of our clients.”
