What is Liposuction?

Lipoplasty, also called liposuction, is a type of cosmetic surgery that gets rid of unwanted fat from your body.

It is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgery procedures in the United States.

During the procedure, a surgeon inserts a small, hollow tube called a cannula through a small incision in the skin, which they use to suction out the fat.

With liposuction, you can get rid of fat and change the shape of particular body parts, like your thighs, hips, stomach, arms, neck, and back.

You can also use the procedure to improve the face, jawline, and chin shape.

Your surgeon will perform liposuction under general anesthesia, which means you will fall asleep during the surgery and not feel any pain.

Depending on the amount of fat you want to remove, your procedure may take around one to four hours.

How Much Does Liposuction Cost?

Liposuction cost can be a significant factor when deciding on the procedure.

The average cost of liposuction is around $3,637, although the price may range from $1,400 to $10,000.

The cost includes both the surgical fee and the non-surgical fee.

The surgical fee is for the liposuction procedure, which varies depending on the treatment areas of the body.

The non-surgical fee covers other costs related to the procedure, such as:

  • The cost of the operating room
  • The nursing staff
  • Pre-operative tests
  • Post-operative clothes
  • Supplies.

The final procedure cost would be the total of the surgical and non-surgical fees.

The table below is only a rough estimate of potential liposuction costs.

Cost of Liposuction on Different Body Parts

    Neck Liposuction Cost

Patients with excess fat in the chin or neck area are good candidates for neck liposuction.

The cost of neck liposuction ranges from $2,500 to $5,000 depending on your location, the surgeon’s experience, the amount of fat removed, and the technique used.

    Laser Liposuction Cost

Laser lipolysis, also known as laser liposuction, is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that melts fat and tightens loose skin.

When we call it minimally invasive surgery, it has fewer drawbacks.

In laser liposuction, heat from fiber-optic lasers melts body fat.

The lasers send out energy in the form of light or sound in a pattern that keeps going back and forth.

On average, the cost for laser liposuction ranges from $6,587 to $15,000, as reported by real patients who have undergone the procedure.

    Chin Liposuction Cost

Fat under the chin can make a big difference in your appearance.

This fat can be removed by surgery, such as double chin surgery, or minimally invasive procedures, such as Chin AirSculpt® or chin liposuction, to improve your facial proportion and appearance.

Unlike surgery, chin liposuction takes less time to perform and recover.

The cost of chin liposuction varies depending on the area to be treated and your body size.

Typically, chin liposuction costs between $1,500 and $5,000 for traditional liposuction.

    Arm Liposuction Cost

Arm liposuction is a procedure to remove unwanted underarm fat that has refused to go away by taking a diet or doing weight loss exercises.

The fat may be a result of weight gain or aging. If conducted on both arms, you are expected to pay between $2,000 and $5,500 for arm liposuction.

    Stomach Liposuction Cost

Liposuction in the stomach area is conducted to remove excess fat from the abdomen.

The fat may have come from pregnancy or excess weight gain.

On most occasions, stomach liposuction or abdominal liposuction is accompanied by a tummy tuck procedure.

A tummy tuck is done after stomach liposuction to remove any excess skin that is left.

Stomach liposuction costs between $2,500 and $8,000 when performed without a tummy tuck.

    Thigh Liposuction Cost

Excessive fat deposits on the outer thighs in some women can be quite distressing.

This is because it affects their appearance. It even makes it difficult to wear a cloth of your choice.

Thigh liposuction may be performed to remove this excess fat. Some of the areas that are common for thighs include the inner thighs, outer thighs, and around the knees.

Just like many other cosmetic procedures, the cost of thigh liposuction varies from one location to another and one patient to another.

Thigh liposuction usually costs $2,500 to $6,500 for one area. This may be either the inner thighs, outer thighs, or around the knees.

Factors That Determine Can Liposuction Cost

Several factors can determine the cost of liposuction:

    • The body part you are treating: The cost of liposuction can vary depending on the area you are treating. For example, liposuction of the abdomen may cost more than liposuction of the arms.
    • A surgeon’s experience: A surgeon with more experience and better qualifications may charge more than one with less experience.
    • Location: Liposuction in a major city may cost more than in a smaller town.
    • The extent of the procedure: The cost of liposuction can also depend on the extent of the procedure, such as how much fat you will extract and how many body parts you will treat.
    • Type of liposuction: There are different types of liposuction, such as traditional liposuction, tumescent liposuction, smart lipo, and laser liposuction. The cost of the procedure can vary based on the type of liposuction your surgeon uses.
    • Anesthesia: General anesthesia is typically more expensive than local anesthesia.
    • Bundling: Some surgeons’ offices offer to bundle, meaning that the surgeon will bundle the cost of multiple areas, which can lower the final price.

Tips on How To Save Money on Liposuction

Here are some tips for lowering the cost of liposuction:

    • Financing options: Many plastic surgeons provide payment plans to make liposuction more affordable. You can look into financing options offered by healthcare financing companies such as CareCredit.
    • Bundle package deals: Some plastic surgeons offer multi-area package deals, which can help lower the overall cost of liposuction.
    • Compare prices: It’s essential to shop around and compare prices from different plastic surgeons. Make sure to consider the surgeon’s qualifications and experience, as well as the overall cost of the procedure.
    • Ask about discounts. Some plastic surgeons offer discounts to people who return or send their friends and family to them.
    • Use Health Savings Accounts (HSA): If you have a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA), use it to pay for elective cosmetic procedures like liposuction.
    • Look for seasonal discounts: Some plastic surgeons offer special discounts during certain times of the year, such as the holiday season.
    • Consider a less experienced surgeon. Choosing a qualified and experienced surgeon would be best to achieve the best results. However, if you want to save money, consider going to a less experienced surgeon.

While trying to save money on liposuction, you should never compromise on the quality of care or the procedure’s safety.

Always consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon before making any decisions.

Importance of Choosing a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon

The best way to make sure your liposuction is safe and gives you the best results is to choose a board-certified plastic surgeon.

Board-certified plastic surgeons are highly trained and qualified individuals who have met the rigorous standards set by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS).

They have completed extensive education and training and passed a rigorous certification process.

Board-certified plastic surgeons are experts in their field and have the skills and knowledge to do the procedure safely and competently.

They keep up with new techniques, technologies, and safety measures, ensuring their patients get the best care possible.

A board-certified plastic surgeon can also provide information about the procedure, including the risks and possible problems.

They will also be able to look at your individual needs and suggest the best way to get the results you want.

Additionally, a board-certified plastic surgeon can also do surgery in an approved medical facility, which makes the procedure even safer.

Finally, if you want to be safe, get the best results, and feel at ease during your liposuction procedure, you must select a board-certified plastic surgeon.

It’s essential to research and consult with a few different surgeons before making a final decision.
